How to get rid of dry, chapped lips

The cold months are thankfully behind us, and the sun is starting to shine again. But there's always that one winter thing that lingers; your lips. Those dry, cracked lips that seem to take forever to heal, even after endless application of lip balm. Let's discover ingredients to avoid in your current lip products and ways to restore your lips to soft, kissable lips again.

The cause of dry lips

The skin of your lips is extremely vulnerable and thin. Daily, it's exposed to various external influences, such as winter heating, air conditioning, sun, heat, and wind, all of which can have a significant impact on your lips. Not drinking enough water is also a big cause. Sometimes, even certain products can make your lips drier.

Why won't my chapped lips heal?

In your daily routine, there could be a certain amount of products thats will make your lips dryer. We recommend avoiding these ingredients when you have dry lips; SLS, Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Menthol. It could also be that you maybe have an allergy to your toothpaste, that's causing those chapped lips, itchy feeling. Some toothpaste ingredients have been known to leave lips flaky and chapped. Trying a natural alternative without menthol will be less harsh for your lips, we recommend to try this one.

The same goes for your lipstick; certain ingredients and color pigments in your favorite lipstick can contribute to your lips drying out. If your lips are already dry or sensitive, go for a natural alternative. Avoid matte lipsticks and instead, use a balm or lip gloss. These are much gentler on your lips and will leave your lips moisturized.

The truth about vaseline

Vaseline is a widely used product, but it's essential to understand how it works and its potential effects on your lips. While it is a powerful moisturizer, it can also create a kind of 'addiction' to lip balm. It essentially forms a layer over your lips, making them temporarily softer. However, this doesn't always mean your lips are actually being hydrated. If you want to find out what ingredients you need to avoid in your vaseline, read this article. For long-term care, try to make the switch to natural alternatives and enhance your lip care routine.
