Tongue Cleansing, Tongue Cleaning, Tongue Scraping.

What's better than starting your day off with a self-care routine filled with healthy habits that will impact the rest of your day and life? Most of us have a pretty standard morning routine which you have pretty much followed since childhood. One of those key morning rituals is probably cleansing your face and brushing your teeth with toothpaste, daily flossing with dental floss or swishing mouthwash around to freshen up. This already sounds like a beautiful and healthy routine, but if we look to the eastern side of the globe, they like to add an extra ‘essential’ part to their morning routines, immediately when getting out of bed to improve their general health every single day.

This ancient eastern tradition is also known as tongue scraping. Did you know your tongue is home to up to 20 million bacteria?

That’s a whole lot to digest… Your tongue is the doorway to your gastrointestinal tract and is an essential organ to fulfil all sorts of functions to help you chew, taste, swallow, digest and to clean teeth, so you can probably understand the importance of keeping your tongue healthy.
Tongue scraping on a daily basis holds many benefits for your overall health, including:

+ Improving the immune system; by removing toxins, bacteria, debris, fungi and dead cells, tongue scraping will help to prevent them from being held in the body and potentially affecting the immune system.

+ Fresher breath; as it removes excess plaque, build-up and odour-causing bacteria, it will make your breath & mouth more kissable!

Whitens the teeth: due to minimising plaque and decay in your mouth.

+ Improves your sense of taste; your tongue may be able to better distinguish between bitter, sweet, salty, and sour sensations as excess build up causing clogged taste buds will be removed

+ Improves digestion; your digestion process starts in your mouth, if you scrape your tongue on a regular basis it helps to activate relevant enzymes that are required for a good digestion of your meal.

+ Gently stimulates the internal organs; your tongue is like a guide for your digestive system and activates and awakens related organs too. Daily tongue cleaning will help your internal organs to get rid of any toxins that have accumulated in your mouth overnight. For a fresh and healthy start of your day!

Helps to detoxify your body, resulting in clearer skin; frequent tongue scraping promotes healthy oral flora and helps increase the level of nitric oxide in your body, according to Dr Nathan Bryan, specialist in molecular medicine and biochemistry at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. This allows more oxygen and nutrients to reach your cells and thus speed up recovery and protect your tissues from ageing for a more healthy and radiant looking skin.

+ Fights the effects of ageing; as tongue scraping reduces toxin's from entering your body and increases the amount of oxygen, frequently tongue scraping is the simplest and most economical way to remain healthy & radiant.

We highly recommend using a copper tongue scraper due to the material's anti-bacteria and anti-microbial properties. Not only is a copper scraper more hygienic, it is also better for our precious environment than plastic variants plus it is more resistant than stainless steel, win-win!

Tongue cleaning is becoming a huge trend in wellbeing around the globe as more and more people are starting to recognise its benefits. Literally, the entire Nourished office has become addicted and use this Cuprum Tongue Cleaner.

How Does Tongue Cleaning Work?

1. Wake up
2. Grab your tongue scraper before drinking a glass of water, so you don't flush all the toxins into your body
3. Hold the ends of the scraper with your thumb and finger
4. Place the rounded part as far back as comfortable on your tongue
5. Gently scrape the surface of your tongue in one long stroke, from back to front, with firm but gentle pressure, repeat this 5-7 times
6. Make sure to rinse your tongue scraper in between ‘scrapes’
7. Brush your teeth.

Enjoy your kissable mouth & healthy gut!
