Washing your hair may seems obvious, but the way you do it determines much more than you think. With a few simple adjustments, your hair will be cleaner, stronger, and shinier than ever. In this guide, you'll discover how to wash your hair most effectively, which shampoo works best, and how to make your routine a little more natural.
1. Choose the right shampoo
A good wash starts with a shampoo that suits your hair type and scalp. A mild, natural shampoo prevents irritation and ensures that your hair becomes less greasy.
At Nourished, we choose gentle formulas without harsh sulfates. For daily use, Nourished Daily's daily shampoo is a safe, fresh, and light option, perfect if you want to keep your scalp balanced or experience dandruff. The nourishing hair wash from Sans ceuticals or the hydrating cream hairbath shampoo from Innersense are the best choice if you have dry, damaged hair. Prefer a plastic-free alternative? 2. Wet your hair completely
Many people start washing too quickly. A well-soaked hair allows shampoo to distribute and cleanse better. Take about 30 seconds to completely wet your hair. This also means you need less product, so your shampoo will last longer, which is a win-win ;)
3. Massage your scalp, not your hair lengths
Shampoo works best on the scalp. Gently massage your fingertips on the scalp, crown, and neck. You can also use a scalp applicator instead of your fingertips. Next, let the shampoo slide through your hair while rinsing. This prevents dryness in the ends and keeps your hair stronger.
4. Wash twice if you use a lot of styling products.
Do you often use hairspray, mousse, or dry shampoo? If so, washing your hair twice can work wonders. The first wash removes product buildup, while the second deeply cleanses the scalp.
For gentle yet thorough cleansing, we recommend the True Enlightenment Scalp Scrub in combination with the Hair Renew Scalp Hairbath Shampoo.
5. Rinse with lukewarm water and finish with cold water
Hot water dries out your hair and scalp more quickly and makes it more sensitive. Lukewarm water is ideal for washing. A quick cold rinse at the end closes the hair cuticles, resulting in shiny hair.
6. Only use conditioner on the mid lengths
Never apply conditioner to the scalp, as this can weigh your hair down. Focus on the lengths & ends and leave it in for a moment. Our daily conditioner nourishes without weighing hair down and helps make it easier to comb through. If you have curls, this conditioner is also great to use as a leave-in.
7. How often should you wash your hair?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions, but the answer varies depending on your hair type:
+ Normal hair: 2–3 times a week
+ Dry or curly hair: 1–2 times a week
+ Oily hair or intensive exercise: every other day, but choose a mild formula

Why choose natural hair care?
Natural shampoos and conditioners clean gently, are less irritating, and help restore your scalp's natural balance. This makes them ideal for sensitive, dry, or red scalps.
By being more mindful of your shampoo, technique, and products, you can get the most out of your hair. Gentle cleansing, good hydration, and the right products can make the difference.
